The high contrast between strokes and straight, symmetrical serifs definitely indicate that this is a modern typeface. The magazine itself utilizes the modern type style. I noticed that modern type is very popular among fashion advertising. This is probably the most famous use of modern typeface. The serifs are slightly sloped, but they are also very symmetrical and have incredibly high contrast. This is very indicative of the modern type race. ![]() The thin strokes are barely visible due to the quality of the image, but they are very thin. This advertisement from Vogue very accurately illustrates modern type. This would definitely be considered a transitional type rather than a modern. The serifs are also symmetrical, but still sloped. ![]() The somewhat narrow bowls that are symmetrical indicate that this is transitional rather than old type. The headline of this story is a very good example of transitional type. The serifs are too sloped, and the weights do not contrast enough to be a modern. It also has symmetrical serifs, which indicate a transitional style rather than old type. The upright nature of this text indicates that is not old type. The bowls are also fairly round implying that this might be old type.
